ASIST – Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
The ASIST ( Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) Course is being offered to people that have taken Community Helpers. Registration is on a first come, first served basis and spaces are limited to smaller number due to COVID.
The Applied Suicide Interventions Skills Training workshop is a two day, intensive workshop where participants learn Suicide Intervention. For more detailed information about the workshop, please go to https://www.suicideinfo.ca/workshop/asist/
The usual registration fee is around 300$, but through the Community Helpers program, funded by Alberta Health Services, the registration fee is being waived for you. The training will be held on Tuesday, October 5th and Wednesday, October 6th in Banff ( location to be given at time of re-registration) The times for the course are 8:30am-4:30pm, on both days and the Centre for Suicide Prevention requires participants to attend both days in order to receive a completion in the course and a certificate. If any time is missed, participants need to re-do the course.
As mentioned the course is very intense, and the subject matter is difficult. As we all know, our sense of “normal” that we once had, is very different now and this course might be not the right time for you, as you might have many other things happening all at once. If you decide to register for this course in October, I would ask that you come rested, and that after the first day, you have nothing to do on that evening- a time to rest, is very important. Also, to practice good “self-care” on the evening of the 6th you have a chance to rest and reflect.
From Town of Banff regulations, participants will be asked to wear masks and all physical distancing practices will be in place. As mentioned, the session will be limited to a smaller group as usual, to help this be possible and comfortable for you and others.
Please register by emailing Yvonne.law@banff.ca and let me know your contact number, spelling of your first and last name. Can you also provide a quick overview of the reason for your interest in this workshop?
